General Mallorca Info

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands with 554 km of coastline. Mallorca's landscape is very varied, due to it's geological formation. The first thing which attracts your attention is the Tramuntana Mountain range, formed by a line of mountains running parallel to the north west coast, the highest of which is Puig Major. The mountains give way to a coastline of tiny villages, sand, pebble and rock beaches. Each in turn surrounded by the imposing mountain range. The mountains are the source of the island's fresh water which courses down to the islands growing regions where orange, clementine and lemon trees grow. There are also long hillside terraces side by side wit

The South West corner of Mallorca is favoured by many as a location for the future holiday or permanent home. Not only does it provide statistically the most sunny days during the year on the island but combines within a few kilometers almost everything a property buyer might look for. The capital of the island Palma is only a 30 minutes drive same as the new airport Son San Juan with direct flights to almost all European Airports.

The beautiful coast from Santa Ponsa to San Telmo impresses with sandy beaches, tranquil coves and rock formations. An absolute paradise for boat lovers, divers and sun lovers. The mountain backdrop and country side attracts painters, cyclists, hikers and nature lovers. The dedicated "shopper" finds a large selection of designer boutiques, furniture shops and weekly markets. Restaurants, bars and bodegas round off the culinary aspect of the area.

Camp de Mar combines a large sandy beach with a championship golf course. The small village of San Telmo is a popular summer resort with family beach and probably one of the most beautiful locations of the island surrounded by the mountains and protected by Dragonera Island, a nature reserve. The typical majorcan market town Andratx looks back onto a long history of which some of the historic buildings bear witness like the recently renovated castle Son Mas, towering over the village and nowadays the town hall and the village church. The mountains around the town are dotted with watch towers, which warned the villagers in the past of pirate attacks. Just a few minutes down the road the popular port of Andratx attracts visitors and residents with bars and restaurants and a more cosmopolitan way of life. Originally just a small fishing port it has developed into one of the places most favoured by the rich and famous as well as others due to its unique location and wide offer of first class re staurants, designer shops, art galleries, marina and cultural events ... Famous architects and designers like Pedro Otzoup have built spectacular villas and complexes on the hills around the port with stunning views of the sea and the surrounding landscape for their discriminating clientele. For those who are looking for a more quiet and rural pace of life there are small villages like S'Arraco or Capdella, much favoured by artists and nature lovers. Here the typical majorcan way of life is still unchanged.

If you are contemplating the purchase of a property on Majorca the South West is definitely worth having a good look at - it has much to offer.
